University of south Florida College of Nursing student, Jennifer Gerring, RN-BC, WCC, OMS, was invited to the 2013 American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) National Magnet Conference on Oct. 2 through Oct. 4 in Orlando, Fla. Gerring was invited to attend after winning the 2013 essay contest presented by ANCC’s Journey to Excellence Committee.

“It was rewarding to attend the Magnet Conference and win the essay contest,” Gerring said. “The excitement and experience at the conference was like no other. All of us in attendance shared the same goals and aimed to achieve the best possible provision for patient centered care and professional nursing practice models.”
ANCC, which is part of the American Nurses Association (ANA), helps promote excellence in nursing and health care globally through credentialing healthcare organizations that provide continuing education. During the ANCC’s Annual Magnet conference, more than 7,000 nursing leaders from top hospitals celebrated highly achieved health professionals and shared evidence-based practices.
Gerring is currently working on her bachelor’s in nursing at USF, and expects to graduate in summer 2014. While taking classes online, she is working as a wound nurse for Martin Health System in Stuart, Fla.
Gerring is a board certified geronotological nurse, wound care certified, and a board certified ostomy management specialist. But, she doesn’t want to stop there. After completing her bachelor’s degree , she plans to enroll in the master’s program in nursing at USF.
“My ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner,” Gerring said. “An Advance Practice Nurse makes an impact on patient outcomes and I want to be able to do that.”
